Bhopal, Feb 18: Forest Department has taken the decision to allow sale of forest produce grown on private land. This sale would be effected through Forest Committees. In the wake of this decision, farmers would be able to get better prices for their forest produce. Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah has issued instructions to every forest range to implement this system this year. All the conservators of forests have been instructed to ensure implementation of this scheme and send the compliance report of the same within one month. At present the marketing of bamboos and non-nationalised timber is made by the farmers themselves. There is lack of publicity of the sale of forest produce that are grown by a farmer in small quantity. There was no competition among the buyers due to which a farmer could not get proper price while the middlemen used to purchase this forest produce at a throwaway prices and then amass money to selling the same at exorbitant prices. With this in view, this optional process of selling forest produce through Forest Committees has been implemented, so that the farmers could get proper prices for their forest produce. Seventy-five percent of estimated price of the forest produce would be paid to a member of the Forest Committee soon after supply of the forest produce. Rest of the money would be paid to the beneficiary from time to time after deducting its expenses. Forest Committee's sale expenses would be minimum eight percent while in the case of bamboo sale expenditure to the tune of Rs one per bamboo stick would be charged. Farmers are required to transport their forest produce to nearest Forest Department depot, which falls in the jurisdiction of concerning Forest Village Committee or Forest Security Committee. This depot might be Nistar or main depot. The Committee would auction this forest produce brought to forest depot at scheduled dates. The committee would realise all the taxes accruing on the forest produce from the concerning buyer and deposit the same in its bank account. The committee would no be responsible for any damage to the forest produce stored in forest depot. Concerning range officers would ensure a constant monitoring so that illegal felling of trees cannot be done.
