Forestland pattas given to Malkangiri tribals

The tribal-dominated and Maoist-prone Malkan-giri had a historical occasion when, within 15 days, the district administration distributed forestland pattas to as many as 5,113 tribal families, including those belonging to the Bonda and Didayi tribes. In two phases, the district administration distributed forestland Pattas to 314 Bonda families, covering 774 acres of land, at Mudulipad (Bonda Ghatt) under Khairput Tehsil. All elected Panchayati Raj members, block and district level officials and NGO representatives were present at the ceremony. A total 221 Didayi families have received the title certificates covering 696 acres of land and, shortly, many others will also be covered. One hundred per cent of the eligible claimants will be provided with Title Certificates (Pattas) by end of this month. As per information available, a total 5113 tribal of different categories of Malkangiri district have received Pattas under Forest Right Act 2006, covering 14,175.18 acres of jungle land of different kissams.
