Forests victims of mismanagement, group says

They may look protected on tourist maps, but forests in Liscomb Game Sanctuary's aren't safe. Clearcuts on the 43,000-hectare block - set up in 1928 to preserve big game - have ruined wilderness and are a sign that Nova Scotian forests are being mismanaged, says a group of Eastern Shore residents. Kim Thomson, of Ship Harbour, said cutting near roads in the sanctuary and increased harvests sparked the formation of the Eastern Shore Forestry Watch this summer. The group wants to promote better forestry practices and focus attention on Liscomb, she said.
