Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi requested Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to instruct the authorities concerned to constitute an autonomous body for time-bound implementation of Pagladiya Dam. In a letter to the Prime Minister today, Mr Gogoi said that for a number of reasons including delay in getting funds, the progress of work of the dam was not at all satisfactory. Going by the current pace of work, the completion of the project by 2007 was unlikely, which meant that the waters of Pagladiya would continue to create havoc for the next ten years, Mr Gogoi said, adding that under such a situation the formation of an autonomous body for the project was a must .
