Fresh jumbo depredations in Jorhat

After a brief lull, the recalcitrant herd of wild elephants, which has been wreaking havoc in the riverine areas of the district since the last one decade, is back to its marauding ways. The jumbos have been seen in Neamati area and Mithaichapori in the vicinity. Sources said that the elephants, which were earlier directed towards Kaziranga National Park, have since returned and traversed along the banks of the Brahmaputra river straddling Dibrugarh, Sivasagar and Jorhat districts. After causing a great deal of depredations in Dibrugarh, Dehingmukh, Disangmukh and other areas, the 100-strong herd has lately returned to Nematighat and adjacent areas in groups.
