Because it runs on diesel also, And diesels, the greens say, belch out more noxious emissions than petrol engines. In fact, the Environment Pollution (Prevention) Control Authority (EPA), a statutory body set up by the Supreme Court to help Delhi combat air pollution in the National Capital Territory (NCT) , recently proposed a ban on registrational of diesel cars in Delhi.
