Fuel supplies resume in Nashik

A day after the city faced acute Petrol shortage, the crunch somewhat eased on Tuesday with the re-opening of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) depot. The BPCL depot was opened on the directives of the collector, according to official sources. The city was facing fuel shortage since May 23 after the Manmad Municipal Council sealed BPCL depot on Friday last after the public sector oil company failed to pay import-duty of Rs 23 crore. Long queues were seen in front of petrol pumps while many pumps remained closed due to non-availalble of petrol stock, sources added. Normal supplies at petrol pumps resumed after petrol and diesel tankers arrived last evening and today, source added. It was only yesterday that the citizens of Nashik were up in arms against the petrol pump operators who refused to sell petrol to them on the plea that there is shortage of the fuel. They demanded to know whether the government had asked the petrol pumps to resort to rationing. The people suffered due to acute shortage of petrol and diesel following non-availability of fuel at many petrol pumps of BPCL since last three days.As a result, many BPCL pumps were either closed or displaying no stock boards, while petrol pumps belonging to Indian Oil were seen distributing petrol and diesel on rationing system. It may be noted that the Manmad Municipal Council had sealed BPCL depot on Friday following dues totalling to Rs 23 crores as import-fees. This has resulted in scarcity of petrol in many parts of city, with stocks not reaching petrol pumps in many district areas from Manmad.
