MIRA-BHAYANDAR THE municipal administration's confession that permission was denied to the construction of offices for group leaders at the main administrative building of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), since it violated the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) led to uproarious scenes during the general body meeting on Thursday. The general House finally approved the controversial resolution of constructing offices for the group leaders amidst high political drama, with corporators of the Lok Shahi Aghadi (comprising of the Congress, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Janta Dal (S), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Lok Bharti) sitting on dharna on the floor of the House and shouting slogans against the adamant attitude and high-handedness of the MBMC Mayor Narendra Mehta and the municipal administration. It should be noted that Mehta had raised strong objections for the construction work in the main administrative building of the corporation. Group leaders of several political parties of the Lok Shahi Aghadi have been demanding offices in the municipal building, but Mehta's objection prompted municipal commissioner Rajeev Jadhav to impose an immediate stay on the construction of the office which was to com up on the ground floor of the building. The first session of the monthly meeting held here on Thursday witnessed chaotic scenes after 40 corporators from the opposition mounted a verbal attack on the Mayor and the municipal administration in this connection, after more than one hour of deliberations the agitating corporators as a mark of their protest squatted on the floor of the house. Sensing the mood of the house, Jadhav withdrew the stay and announced that construction of offices will begin with immediate effect after which the corporators withdrew their agitation.
