Taking a cue from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the Public Works De partment (PWD) is planning to go underground, where it cannot go elevated without courting controversy. The department plans a four-lane tunnel road, which it hopes will put to rest all oppositions and reservations of heritage groups against its earlier plan to connect the Commonwealth Games Village near NH-24 to Lodhi Road with a six-lane open depressed road. The proposed tunnel road stays clear of the heritage sites as well as the Delhi Zoo.
