For the first times sine it came into existence 35 years ago, Gandhinagar is experiencing an acute drinking water shortage, forcing the government to press into service tankers in some areas. The governemnt has directed the Gujarat State Water Resources Corporation to take up, on a war-footing, the digging of 30 new borewells in the different parts of the capital, besides reactivating the existing 21 which are not in use.
