The Supreme Court took exception to the Centre's nonchalant approach in implementing the Ganga Action Plan that failed to contain industrial pollution of river water despite the fact that several crores of rupees have been pumped into the project since 1985. The Bench of Chief Justice YK Sabharwal along with Justices CK Thakker and RV Raveendran expressed displeasure over the Ministry's failure to provide information about the Ganga Action Plan after a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in its report highlighted several irregularities.
