Gas Cracker Project on time: GAIL chief

After Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Bijoy Krishna Handique, it was the turn of Chairman-Cum- Managing-Director (CMD) of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Dr UD Choubey today, to allay apprehension over Assam Gas Cracker Project, assuring that it would be completed within the scheduled time. The project is moving very smoothly as per schedule and is expected to be completed within the stipulated time, said Dr Choubey, addressing a press conference here today. The project completion is 60 months from the zero date of September 2007. The Rs 5460 crore joint venture project is among GAIL's three new petrochemical projects. Replying to questions, the CMD said the project is being regularly monitored in Delhi. The Minister of State holds review meeting to take stock of the project on a fortnightly basis, Dr Choubey said. The land for the project has been acquired and the chief operations officer has been appointed and six meetings of Board of Directors of Brahmaputra Crackers and Polymers Limited (BCPL) has been held. The last meeting was held here yesterday. The next meeting of the Board of Directors, as reported earlier is slated to be held at Dibrugarh in July. The CMD further added that feedstock agreement with OIL, ONGC and NRL has been tied up. The land for the project has been acquired and fencing work is going to start soon, he added. While the Gas Cracker Project is among three projects being promoted by GAIL. The Company has also signed a MoU with HPCL, TOTAL, LN Mittal and OIL for setting up an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex at Visakhapatnam. GAIL has also signed a MoU with Reliance Industries Limited for joint cooperation in petrochemicals. Under the MoU, GAIL and RIL are going to explore the opportunities for setting up petrochemical complexes outside India, in feedstock rich countries.
