Plans to close a legal loopholes that allows so called gas guzzling cars to avoid strict pollution controls are set to be knocked off course by European lawmakers. The European commission had proposed bringing these sports utility vehicles under the same standards as smaller vehicles when it updated the Euro 5 rules from 2009.
