GE Water & Process Technologies, a unit of GE Infrastructure, has bagged the contract for setting up a water desalination plant for Tata Chemicals in Metapur in Gujarat. The mobile seawater project, the first desalination plant in the country, will be set up on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis for a four-year period. The contract is worth $6.5 million. According to Mr H. Bala, Chief Executive Officer, the plant will supply 5.8 million litres per day of industrial water and reduce energy and overall costs, thus alleviating the water scarcity faced by Tata Chemicals.
