A committee appointed by the Environment Minister, Mr Suresh Prabhu, has recommended the setting up of gender and environment cells in state forest departments, besides taking other pro-women measures. The 16-member panel set up late last year was aked to review the status of women in the forestry sector and ascertain their needs and expectaitons, especially those of rural women.
