The Ram Forest Research Institute (RFRI) under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, and situated at Sotai to the east of Jorhat city, has scientifically developed an improved and high-yielding cultivar of Gamari timber by transfer of germplasm through vegetative propagation. These 'elite' germplasm are reported to be highly productive, besides being disease and pest resistant. .
