controversial plans to regulate the European chemical industry could destroy up to 1.7m jobs in Germany, according to a study commissioned by BDI, the German industry federation, and relased yesterday. The study says draft proposals, published by the European commission in May, had the 'potential to depress the German economy significantly" owing to a drop in investment, a fall in exports, a loss of innovation and considerably higher manufacturing costs.
