An NGO has moved the chief judicial magistrate's court against senior officials of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation and the UP Pollution Control Board for not constructing any sewage treatment plant and preventing the flow of drain water into the Hindon river.
The NGO, Jal Biradari, has sought registration of a case against the civic body and the pollution control board officials under Section 284 of the IPC, which prohibits the poisoning of a public water body. It has also sought registration of a case against officials for conspiring to allow the discharge of toxic water into a water body.
The head of the NGO, Vikrant Sharma, has also submitted to the court a report of the UP Pollution Control Board, which says that allowing the discharge of toxins untreated into any natural water body is a criminal activity punishable with imprisonment.
The CJM has ordered Kotwali police to investigate and file a report in 15 days, and issued a show-cause notice as to why a criminal case should not be registered against the accused officials.
