A Young girl died while 12 others were taken ill after outbreak of gastroenteritis in Basal village near Solan, last night. Out of 12 patients suffering from diarrhoea, Darshan Singh and Mohit were admitted to the Primary Health Centre at Dharampur, while eight patients were given treatment at the village by a team of doctors led by Medical Officer Dr S.P. Singh. Sources in the Health Department revealed that the outbreak of gastroenteritis came to light after Dhanvanti (13) complained of vomiting and diarrhoea last evening. She was immediately taken to a private clinic at Dharampur, where she died. She was a student of Class VII at Government Middle School, Dhar-Ki-Ber. Holding officials of Irrigation and Public Health Department responsible for the outbreak of disease, villagers alleged that despite repeated requests, the officials concerned were supplying potable water from the department's lift drinking water scheme after a gap of four-five days, forcing villagers to consume contaminated water from natural sources. Medical Officer Dr S.P. Singh, who visited the village, claimed that the situation was under control and two of the patients had already been discharged after treatment.
