Revenue Minister asks officials to complete works on water schemes soon
State Revenue Minister and Kumarapalayam MLA P. Thangamani has urged officials of Municipalities, Town Panchayats and rural local bodies to give priority to executing drinking water schemes and to complete them soon.
The Minister was addressing heads of various government departments at a review meeting held at the District Collectorate. “It is the duty of the officials to ensure that the residents of the district get adequate drinking water in a timely manner,” he added.
Mr. Thangamani also said repair and maintenance works were over in 258 of the 333 toilet complexes in the district for women. They will be put to use from next week and will be maintained by Women Self Help Groups, the Minister said. He also asked Panchayats to carryout repair works in the public toilets using their funds and to construct compound walls for schools.
Another issue highlighted by the Minister was regarding mending of poorly maintained rainwater harvesting system in government buildings.
After his speech, Mr. Thangamani asked the heads and representatives of various departments to give a detailed account in the next review meeting, of action taken on various issues discussed on Saturday.
Mr. Thangamani gave away agricultural equipment worth Rs. 14.5 lakh to nine beneficiaries through the Agricultural Engineering Department. He also gave orders for construction of 14 group houses worth Rs. one lakh each for 14 transgenders under the Indira Gandhi Memorial Group House Scheme during the year 2011-12.
Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly and Rasipuram MLA P. Dhanapal and Collector J. Kumaragurubaran spoke.
Superintendent of Police Pravesh Kumar, District Revenue Officer R. Seethalakshmi, Namakkal MLA K.P.P. Baskar, District Panchayat President K. Gandhimurugesan and Vice President A.P. Palanivelu and other elected representatives were also present during the meet.
