Have gas, will explore' seems to be the mantra as India's $90 billion oil and gas industry gears up for the July round of talks with Iran on the $7.4 billion Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project. The recent harping on gas as the preferred fuel, especially when rising crude oil prices forced the government to hike petrol and diesel prices, and the move to put gas exploration on the fast track indicate that the nuclear deal with the US is not the key to India's energy security. "Natural gas is emerging as a preferred fuel as its mobility improves with technological intervention. The IPI project is necessary to meet our growing energy needs," says Petroleum Secretary M.S.
