- Global shrimp catch falls short of target

The dip in the global catch of shrimp from the sea has been more or less compensated by a surge in production from aquaculture ponds and farms. However recurrent disease problems during 1996 and 1997 had resulted in production falling far short of targets, squeezing supplies and resulting in a price surge in the global markets.
