Global welfare team visits uranium mines

Shillong: A team of 7 members headed by R Jana Nongbet, president of Global Social Welfare Organisation, Shillong visited Jaduguda, Narwapahar, Turumdih and Banduburang mines, the place of uranium mining at Singhbhum district, Jharkhand on a study tour. With the help of the locals of the area, the team collected information about the establishment of uranium mining and gathered from them the merits and demerits of mining the mineral. The team also gathered from them the effect of uranium mining on the health and social life of the people according to a press release issued here recently. Before presenting the final report to the authority concerned of the state, the team will visit Domiasiat in west Khasi Hills District, where uranium ore is deposited in the state and also study its surroundings. The final report will be submitted keeping in view the local and national interest.
