General Motors Corp. will announce plans to develop hybrid diesel-electric transit buses, signalling a new direction for the No.1 auto maker's advanced vehicle strategy. GM will deliver a test hybrid bus to New York City in 1999, and plans to begin producing more vehicles with its bus making partners in the year 2000, Robert Purcell, executive director of GM's advanced vehicle technology operations, said in a recent interview.
