Research institutions should strive for commercial productions of carbon nano tubes (CNT). These will bear a huge impact in ensuring energy independence for the country INDIA has to go for nuclear power gen- eration in a big way using thorium- based reactors, former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam said. After inaugurating the Common- wealth Science and Technology Acad- emy for Research here on Friday, he said thorium, a non-fissile material, was available in abundanne in the country and suggested that intensive research is essential for maximising its utilisation and generation of electric- ity through reactors. Dr Kalam suggested that the nation- al programme in proteomics (the study of all the proteins expressed by the ge- nome of a cell) should be given more thrust with the cooperation of the in- ternational scientific community.
