The State government has given an undertaking to the Karnataka High Court that it would soon pass an executive order directing the authorities concerned to plant two saplings before cutting a tree. Not only that, the State has also indicated to the court that immediate action would be taken to make necessary changes to the rules and regulations in this regard. The State Chief Secretary B S Patil has given this undertaking in response to the direction given by the High Court earlier this month to submit a report on the action taken by the government to implement the formula laid down by the court for preserving trees. The High Court had for the first time in the country had laid down - first replace and then remove - formula for preserving greenery in the State.
