Strapped for funds needed to complete ongoing road construction and repair works and water supply projects, the Goa government is introducing a Bill in the extended budget session of the legislative assembly beginning next week, levying an environment tax on mining. The proposed tax of Rs. 2 per tonne of ore may be imposed on either the rejects generated or the quantum of ore exported or that excavated, according to the revenue minister, Dr Wilfred Mesquita.
