Goa has agreed to Maharashtra's request to divert Madei river water passing through its territory in Sindhugurg district for construction of a dam at Virdi. Goa will get double the amount of water from the dam that will have a capacity of 15.38 million cubic litres per day. The dam height will also be increased so that the State gets additional water during summer.
