The ministry of surface transport and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) seem to have had second thoughts again on the actual date when the Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) part of the ambitious National Highway Development Project (NHDP) would be completed. The original deadline December 2003 was revised by Union surface transport minister BC Khanduri last week by one year, and now the ministry and the NHAI say the 5846-km GQ will be completed only in December 2005.
