Government grants two Aboriginal claims

The Australian government proposed to give Aborigines title to two parcels of land in the Northern Territory. The Innesvale claim, covering 283,700 hectares, and the Urrpantyenye claim, covering 6,554 hectares, would bring the number of Aboriginal land holdings in the NT under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act to 61. The Innesvale claim was an agreement between the NT government and Northern Land Council (NLC), Reconciliation Minister Philip Ruddock told the parliament .
