Once a draft bill to prohibit human-cloning research gets cabinet approval later this month, the governent will submit it to the current session of the Diet for passing into legislation. The proposed bill is in line with actions taken in some other countries to prohibit the cloning of humans, following the 1997 cloning of Dolly the sheep in Scotland. The legislation will be the first in Japan to impose penalties on research in a specific scientific field.
