Government should prove land deals were fraudulent, suggests Parrikar

Though the Central government has refused to de-notify three Special Economic Zones (SEZs), the State government has still got a case to get the SEZ scrapped. The State government will have to inquire into fraudulent land allotments for SEZs and prove that transactions entered into were in contravention of law, suggested opposition leader Manohar Parrikar, while reacting to the Centre's refusal to heed the Goa government's demand on SEZs Parrikar who was addressing a press conference on Tuesday here had earlier charged that the land allotment for SEZs was done in violation of law. He demanded that the the government should immediately conduct an inquiry into land allotment to make a strong case to scrap notified SEZs. He further suggested that the State government should appoint a top notch lawyer to defend the government in the court of law, in stead of entrusting the case to Advocate General Subodh Kantak. "I have already proved to the industries secretary that prima facie land allotments were illegal' he said demanding that the government should order a probe without wasting any time.
