Government slumbering on Girglani report

Government lands that ought to have been assigned to the tribals are not being assigned to them for want of survey of the lands in the Warangal district, Andhra Pradesh. This is because surveyors are not posted in the Scheduled V (Tribal) mandals. This is one of the many stunning and mind-numbing disclosures made by Girglani report submitted to the Government in August last on the state of affairs of the tribal lands in the Telangana region. The Report further observes: "In Mulug mandal, the MRO had issued orders for restoration of 350 acres but admitted that he is under pressure from non tribals, who have occupied the lands more than two decades ago, to withdraw the orders.' The Land Committee appointed by the State Government appointed retired IAS officer J M Girglani as consultant to study the issue. He took up the job on June 1, 2005 and submitted his report on August 17, same year. The Government, however, failed to take any action on the report.
