The U.S. Energy Department has awarded $10 million grants to two U.S. firms to support development of electrically powered cars for commercial use in five years. Energy Secretary Bill Richardson announced the $20 million and research and development initiative at the International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, according to an Energy Department news statement released January 5.
