Government to acquire 1.6 lakh acres in rural areas

Satish Shile, Bangalore, DH News Service: The State is in the process of acquiring land in rural areas, mostly farm land, for the development of industrial corridors in the State. The acquisition process for an estimated 1.6 lakh acres of land is underway. The State government in its budget 2008-09 proposed to develop five industrial corridors to promote industries outside of Bangalore. The Department of Industries and Commerce was entrusted with the responsibility to create a land bank in each district for development of industrial corridors. KIADB CEO Shyam Bhat said DCs had identified 30,000 acres of land out of which proposal for acquisition of 8,500 acres had reached the Board.
