PANSKURA: Expressing displeasure with the way emergency relief was distributed among the flood-affected people of both Midnapore East and West districts after the recent flash flood, Governor Mr Gopal Krishna Gandhi today asked the district administration of the two districts to ensure proper distribution of relief funds among the actual beneficiaries. He, however, said that the Centre and the state should co-ordinate with each other. Mr Gandhi was here today to pay his visit to the villages of Sabang and Panskura of Midnapore West and Midnapore East districts respectively to assess the post-flood situation and distribution of relief among the victims. After visiting the worst hit areas of both the districts, he convened meetings with the district administrative officials where he instructed the officials to ensure proper distribution of relief funds given by the state government and the Center. Mr Gandhi spoke to the victims, who alleged that in many cases the officials had taken partisan roles in distributing relief during the flood. They also complained that relief was not adequate and hundreds of villagers had to stay marooned without any food for many days at a stretch. Mr Gandhi said, "A total of Rs 140 crore had been allotted for the two districts and I have asked the officials to release this fund immediately.'
