The Interior Ministry of Thailand has instructed governors of 16 provinces to finish drafting action plans to ban inland shrimp farming in their jurisdictions by the end of next week, Deputy Agriculture Minister Virat Rattanaset said. Amid protests by black tiger prawn farmers, the cabinet last month approved a resolution to ban inland shrimp farming in freshwater areas nationwide. It provided for a grace period of 120 days to allow the farmers to harvest their last crops.
