Govt allocates Rs 300 cr for road maintenance

LUCKNOW: The state government on Saturday decided to allocate an additional Rs 300 crores for maintenance of roads, which got damaged due to rains. This will be apart from the budgetary allocation of Rs 7100 crores that has been earmarked for maintenance of roads for the financial 2011-12. While announcing the additional sum, PWD minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui asked the department officials to ensure that the patch and repair works of the roads, which got badly damaged in the heavy rains is complete by November 15. He was speaking at a review meeting held in the department on Saturday. Not only the national highways, but also the district roads and other roads be made patch less, the minister said and added that the Centre has assured funds for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) The minister said that projects worth Rs 800 crores have been sanctioned under the MNREGS which should be completed in time besides the other schemes under the Purvanchal and Bundelkhand fund. The minister while expressing concern over the slow pace of progress in the Bridge Corporation and Nirman Nigam warned of taking stern action against erring officials.
