Govt apathy adds to Jharkhand tribes` plight

The declining population of Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) it seems that nobady's concern in Jharkhand, although the State was formed for the welfare of the people of the region, especially for the tribals. The tribals constitute 27 per cent of the total 27 million population of the State. There are 30 types of tribals found in Jharkhand, out of which eight are primitive tribes. According to the data available with the Tribal Welfare Department, the literacy rate among the primitive tribals stands between seven to 18 per cent.
