KENDRAPARA: The Forest and Wildlife Department recently directed all the divisional forest officials of the coastal areas of the State to submit a detailed report on catching and selling of jellyfishes.
The direction came after fishermen were found to be catching jellyfish, the food of the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles and other marine species, indiscriminately. Also selling of jellyfish to marine exporters of West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh has been going on as a result the population of this marine creature is dwindling rapidly and turtles are deprived of their favourite food.
