Govt blows the whistle on 'money-making NGOs'

Finally, the government has decided to check the mushrooming of such non governmental organisations (NGOs) which are formed to make money. A stringent 25-point set of guidelines has been reportedly issued recently to all ministries for selection, funding and monitoring of all NGOs. The guidelines, issued by the department of administrative reforms and public grievances under the Union ministry of personnel , say: "It is necessary to amend the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and other analogous Acts at the state level and the Foreign as to provide for different types of registeration for various categories of organisations based on the number and size of their on-going projects, extent of area covered and their existing assets.
