Govt committed to safeguard interests of farmers: Dhumal

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Monday said that the State Government was committed to protect the interests of the fruit growers and deliver them best of the services to improve the quality and quantity of their produce to match global standards. Addressing delegation of people from Jubbal and Kotkhai area of Shimla district here, who called on him under the leadership of Horticulture Minister Narender Bragta, Chief Minister said that efforts would be made to explore possibilities to create required infrastructure to produce by products of the fruits within the State to provide growers remunerative prices. Dhumal said that efforts would also be afoot to change the old root-stock of apple by importing the high yielding early varieties of the quality root stock. He said that after multiplication of the root-stock by the scientists, the same would be made available to the fruit growers for replacement. He emphasised the need to adopt multi-cropping pattern to generate additional income to the growers. He said that procurement under Market Intervention Scheme was one of the steps directed towards ensuring minimum market price to the fruit growers. He said that farmers needed to equip themselves with latest innovations to obtain maximum yield of their cash crops by adopting diversified farming.
