Kochi: The workshop organised by SmartCity authorities for incorporating the views of various government departments and agencies, including Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and Kerala Water Authority (KWA), came a cropper on Wednesday as they remained clueless about the master plan. Though the authorities of the IT project invited representatives of various departments, they were kept in the dark about SmartCity’s needs and requirements at the workshop on Thursday. Since SmartCity authorities failed to brief top officials of departments, they have not been able to prepare suggestions to modify the master plan. “We are still not sure whether SmartCity authorities are planning to buy electricity from outside or opt for a high tension (HT) connection. They have not briefed us about these issues and their exact power requirement. So we will be unable to give them any suggestions during the workshop,’’ a top KSEB official said. “If they want to bring power from other states, they can do it after giving us wheeling (transmission) charges. They can use transmission lines of KSEB within the boundaries of the state,’’ he said. According to KSEB officials, they had earlier planned to supply power from the substation at Brahmapuram. Towers for drawing transmission lines from Pallikkara had to be constructed through the SmartCity land. Then there was a row between KSEB and SmartCity officials as the latter objected to erecting towers on their land. Though a committee headed by the district collector was constituted, a final solution to the issue is still pending. Chief minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the workshop in Kochi on Thursday.
