Sixteen years after notifying an 81 bigha woodland near Narendrapur, a bird sanctuary, the West Bengal forest department has published a proclamation inviting claims for compensation so that the land can be finally acquired. The notification was published last week in vernacular dailies granting two months for claims to be lodged. The notice also spelt out the intention of the state government to declare the area located in the outskirts of the city in South 24-Parganas as a sanctuary.
