Hhuge amount of Rs44 million released by the Governor Sindh to Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) is feared to be buried in the rubble due to negligence of the KWSB. Chairman, Pakistan Tanners Association (S.Z) Fawad Jawed has severely criticized KWSB for wasting Rs44 millions released by the Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan for supply of 5 MGD (million gallons daily) water to Tannery Zone.
KW&SB laid a pipeline network in Tannery Zone along with two kilometer long 12 inches dia pipeline from Chamra Roundabout to industrial cluster in order to connect the newly paid pipeline with main water line from Pipri in the first phase to restore supply to the export-oriented leather and its allied industry. The project sanctioned about two years back on 11.04.12 is still incomplete.
The said 12-inch dia pipeline has not been connected with main 33 inches pipeline at Chamra Roundabout and appears to have been given up since no work was done on it for the last one year. It is feared that the pipeline laid in Tannery Zone would not be able to withstand to water pressure after sometime and will crack up if water is not released into the pipes now which amounts to wastage of precious resources.
He warned that KWSB high ups would be accountable for this huge loss. He appealed to the Sindh Governor to intervene and order KWSB to connect theTannery Zone pipeline network with the main Pipri pipeline without further loss of time and restore water supply to Tannery Zone before the said pipeline starts cracking up.
