The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Union government on an allegation that it has decided to prune the list of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families across the country. The court also directed Attorney General Soli J Sorabjee to file a response to the same. While asking the Centre to state the reason for its alleged decision, a bench comprising Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice H K Sema, hearing applications filed by the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), also sought the Centre's response on the allegation that supply of grains for the Food-for-Work Programme for BPL families had been substantially reduced.
