Govt hospitals get 125cr NRHM aid

Fund For Setting Up Basic Facilities The state will get Rs 125.5 crore for improving the basic facilities of the government hospitals across the state. The fund has been sanctioned by the Centre under the national rural health programme (NRHM), said health minister V S Sivakumar. The fund will be utilized for setting up mother and baby blocks, casualty wings, cath labs, surgical wards and outpatient blocks. The fund was sanctioned following the proposals submitted by the state health minister to the union health minister Gulam Nabi Azad. In the last financial year the Centre had sanctioned Rs 78.66 crore for the same purpose. This is the first time the state is getting such a huge amount for improving the basic facilities of the hospitals, said the minister. Apart from this the Centre has also sanctioned Rs 13.48 crore for setting up new health sub centres through NRHM. The construction of these sub centres will be completed within the current financial year. The minister said that from the sanctioned amount, Rs 12 crore will be given to Neyyattinkara taluk hospital, Rs 5 crore each for Aluva district hospital, Fort taluk hospital, Punalur taluk hospital and Ernakulam general hospital, Rs 1.5 crore each for Kozhikode general hospital and Idukki district hospital, Rs 3.55 crore for Mananthavadi district hospital, Rs 4 crore for Kalpetta general hospital, Rs 1 crore each for Trikkunnapuzha and Chambakulam taluk hospitals, Rs 2.5 crore for Kottarakara taluk hospital, Rs 3 crore for Harippad taluk hospital, Rs 2 crore for North Paravur taluk hospital, Rs 2.5 crore for Sulthan Batheri taluk hospital, Rs 80 lakhs for women and children hospital, Thycaud, Rs 45 lakhs for Mannarcaud taluk hospital and Rs 25lakh will be given for Tirurangadi taluk hospital for improving their facilities.
