A light rail mass rapid transit system is on the cards in the southern stretch of the metropolis connecting the Kolkata city hub with fringe areas. The 16-km stretch connecting Esplanade and Joka (in South 24 Parganas) is expected to be onelevated tract whre light rail coaches would be run, a senior official of the West Bengal Transport Department said.
