The government is planning to step up surveillance and monitoring of the backyard and commercial poultry farms across the country aiming to check further spread of bird flu. It has also planned to strengthen bio-security at each and every farm to help check the contamination of viral disease to the people who close to the poultry flocks. The decision came from an emergency meeting held at the fisheries and livestock ministry on Sunday after the first case of human attack by the disease was detected in the country. The meeting was chaired by Manik Lal Samaddar, special assistant to chief adviser. The meeting said the government would design an action plan against the bird flu in the first week of July based on the recommendations to be put forward by the four committees within June 30. The surveillance, vaccination, wet-market and sanitation and bio-security committees comprise the officials of the ministry and leaders of the poultry sector. The government has asked the committees to submit their reports within the deadline as it will take further steps to contain the disease before the next winter season.
