The Union cabinet deferred a decision on the ambitious National Urban Renewal Mission (NURM) for improving infrastructure in 60 cities, including the metros. The decision was understood to have been taken on account of differences in approach and caution about investing Rs 1,00,000 crore on urban development so soon after the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme that is slated to cost Rs 125,000 crore.
